Today’s Mission

Before You Read

Have you ever wondered how one wise person can change the future of an entire nation?

Can knowledge be more powerful than a sword?

As you read this lesson, think about whether intelligence is more important than physical strength.

Reading Passage

Chanakya, also known as Kautilya and Vishnugupta, was one of the greatest scholars in ancient India. He lived around the 4th century BCE and is remembered as a brilliant teacher, economist, philosopher, and political strategist.

Chanakya studied and taught at Takshashila, one of the world’s oldest universities. He believed that knowledge, discipline, and planning were the keys to success. His ideas were not only about ruling a kingdom but also about living a wise and meaningful life.

One of Chanakya’s greatest achievements was mentoring Chandragupta Maurya. With Chanakya’s guidance, Chandragupta established the Maurya Empire, which later became one of the largest empires in Indian history.

Chanakya also wrote the famous book Arthashastra. It discusses administration, economics, diplomacy, taxation, military strategy, and governance. Even today, many business leaders, managers, and government officials study its principles.

His teachings encourage people to think before acting, remain disciplined, value education, and prepare for challenges instead of fearing them.

Real Story

When Alexander the Great invaded northwestern India, the political situation was unstable. Around the same period, Chanakya saw the need for strong leadership and worked with Chandragupta Maurya to build a powerful kingdom. Their efforts eventually led to the rise of the Maurya Empire, changing the course of Indian history.
